[From the Early Times] Kulgam: Notwithstanding the empty recurring of State Government on return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits to valley, a Pandit family was attacked in village Chowgam of Devsar constituency in Kulgam district of South Kashmir today when it visited the apple orchard to sprinkle pesticides to trees in the morning.

According to reports Vijay Raina and his other family members today visited their residence in Chowgam village to sprinkle pesticides to their trees in the Apple orchard. But as soon as they started spraying the pesticides, a group of locals led by Mohd Saleem Ganai son of Habibullah Ganai and their relatives attacked them, thrashed Vijay Raina and his wife and warned them to leave the area failing which they will have to face serious consequences.

To save themselves from the clutches of attackers Vijay and his other family members took refuge in Police Station Qazigund. The police has registered a case against Ganai family.

Vijay told ET Plus Report that Ganai who has encroached their land also warned him of serious consequences if he tried to cultivate his land in the village as they have migrated 25 years back and have no right to return to Valley and cultivate the land.

The incident has generated a lot of resentment among minority Pandits and they have demanded stringent action against the culprits so that such incidents are not repeated anywhere.

The Kashmiri Pandits have demanded immediate removal of encroachment from the land belonging to KP family. They also demanded removal of encroachments from other parts of valley. While condemning the incident KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri said that this has exposed the Government which is making tall claims on return of KPs to valley.

Kashmiri also warned those self styled KP leaders of misleading the community especially the youth on return. He reiterated the demand of carving out of Kashyap state within valley for rehabilitation of KPs in valley.
